Frozen 2:

What is it:
Frozen 2 is the continued story of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, released in 2019, it follows Elsa discovering more about her powers and why she has them, bringing the story to a sweet close.

How is it relevant:
The main story of frozen 2 is not relevant to my main project, however a reoccurring theme within the story is, more focusing on one particular scene, in which Elsa's and Anna's father tells them of the ancient forest and following when the mother sings them a lullaby

The scene in which the father tells them the story of the forest is a little on the scene is introduced via narration and while there are sounds from the flashback or "Pocket Story" the tale is narrated and driven by the narration of the father, telling the story to his daughters

The lullaby has a sweet fluffy warms that is what I am aiming to achieve in my own project, between a mother and daughter.

Brave
What is it:
Brave is an animated film released in 2012, focusing on a young princess Merida who wishes to make her own choices, and defies clan tradition. The film is heavily focused on the concept of fate and the relationship between family, between mother and daughter.

how is it relevant:
In this film the most prominent theme is the relationship between the mother and daughter, while in the majority of the film their relationship is shakey they learn to get along together and mend teh tears that are in their relationship
I want to show an already loving relationship so, I believe taking inspiration and notes from teh later scene in the film that focus around the mother/daughter relationship I think it will help me create a relationship that feels warm loving and real.

How to Train your Dragon
What is it:
How to Train your Dragon is a film about the strong and unlikely friendship of toothless (the dragon) and Hiccup (the viking), Dragons and Vikings have long been enemies in this story.
Through the film hiccups status in the village changes as he leans so much about dragons through his hidden friendship with Toothless.

How is it relevant:
This is relevant as the relationship between my characters Ezaru and Ace, have a big impact on the relationship of Ezaru and her mother martha within the Cross Destiny Story, while my short film will be a spin off from what I am planning with the entire story, the effects of the friendship between Ace and Ezaru will still be seen withing the relationship of Martha and Ezaru.

I believe that the relationship between Stoic (father) and his son Hiccup will be a good reference towards learning how to write this.
The friendship the hiccup has with toothless gives up an advantage and knowledge of dragons which impress his father and makes him proud.  (while the father has no idea of the relationship, he just thinks his son is getting better at being, what he considers, a good viking)

However when finding out about the friendship of Hiccup and toothless the good relationship was fractured between father and son.
The friendship between Hiccup and Toothless enraged Stoic and put a spilter in their relationship, showing that friendships can have a heavy impact on family relations and how people within the family react to them

Winx Club (Season 5)
what is it
Winx Club is  T.V series originally released in 2004, Following the story of a fairy named Bloom and her friends the 5th season of Winx Club they travel to and forth an underwater world, known as the Infinite Ocean

how is it relevant:
The Infinite Ocean is separated from the normal style of the Winx Club show, while the normal animation of the show is 2D, the infanite ocean world is 3D, this creates a divide between the worlds emphasizing the difference of what they are dealing with.

While my story is not going to have this type of narrative, the point I am taking from this show is that the difference in animation style helps separate two locations, I want to use this to help separate past and present within my short film.

Mia and me
What is it:
Mia and me is a live action/cartoon show aimed at young girls, it takes place across two worlds one being in live action, and one being in 3D animation.
The live action showing the main character Mia's everyday life and the 3D world showing her adventures in a magical land full of adventure.

How is it relevant:
Similar to my reasoning to the Winx Club, this show uses Diffrent styles in this case 3D/live action, to create a difference in story.
The 3D allows for more fantasy and unreal things compared to the live action world, and helps show that in a magic world almost anything is possible, things that don't exist in the real world can exist there.

Tangled
What is it:
Tangles is a retelling of the classic tale, Rapunzel, this version of the story brings the main character Rapunzel on an adventure with a notorious thief Flynn Ryder this movie was released in 2010

How is it relevant:
In the beginning Eugine aka Fynn Ryder, introduces us to the story via narration, the tone of which he does introduces the audience is like he is recounting what happens in the movie, it makes it feel like he is telling the audience this tale.
I want to have a similar effect in terms of the story Martha tells to ezaru, it takes up a large chunk of the short film but I want it to be clear it is a story from the past, despite Tangled not being narrated through which lets us be fully emerged in it, I want my film to have the overlaying tone of a story being told.

Kung Fu Panda

What is it:
Kung fu Panda is a film from 2011 continuing the story of Po the panda, dragon warrior who faces a new enemy from his past, Lord Shen

How is it relevant:
In this film, there is a scene in which Po finds his inner peace, by going through his painful memories of Lord Shen's attack on his birth families village,
In the scene blue and cold tones are used to show the sad cold world outside of the flashback while in the flashback itself it starts out with warm welcoming colours, using this to show his village happy and content, however in Lord Shen's attack very few colour are used and the ones that are, are bold and saturated, screaming danger.
Colour is another aspect that I think can help me show the mood in my short film, helping the audience feel the the mother's embrace is warm while the outside world and the scary parts of her story are cold and harsh.

Inside out

What is it:
Inside out is a coming of age adventure taking place inside a young girls mind, it follows the personified emotions of a girl named Riley

How is it relevant:
The memories in this story are a huge plot drive, they give us insight on the character Riley, who she is and the things she has experienced, its a way of learning about her through experiences she has already had and what made her the way she is now, what molded her into the person she is in present time.

Late afternoon
What is it:
Short film about an old lady with dementia

How is it relevant:
Late afternoon consists majorly of flashbacks, the said flashbacks are very fluid and dreamlike separating it from the stationary real world, the style and motion of the flashback are very important within my story as it takes up a major chunk of the films duration. The majority of this short film consist of flashback yet still drives a effective story, breaking up the sections of memory with cute to the real world, which I believe will be a good tactic for my short film making sure the audience is still in the room with Ezaru and Martha being told a story.
