Research: Im here for the Plot (Plotting the Body)

Research: Plotting the Body Paragraph

I did update my question somewhat, as I am unsure if I want to continue with the uncanny valley:

Can I create short film using both 3D and 2D animation, to create an underground world in which my characters must gain a key Item to advance in their goal of getting to the surface world?

Body
·         Proposal of six arguments to support project questioning.
Isolated communities
isolated cave ecosystem
Cults
History of combining 2D and 3D
What films use 2D and 3D why
Using 3D to look 2D and 2D to look 3D

·         Short explanation e.g. one to two sentences explaining how argument supports project questioning.
Isolated communities:
Isolated communities is valuable information to my question as my world, is un underground cave, cut off from the surface. This research will help understand what kind of effects a cut off civilization can have on people and the way they act.

isolated cave ecosystem:
This topic is relevant for my argument as, in my world, it has its own environment. Studying this will help me delve more into how my world works, what will effect how the people live, by what their environment is like

Cults:
Cults are often isolated communities, with their own way of life, twisted as it may be. I believe researching into it could help develop the cut of world that I am creating

History of combining 2D and 3D:
Looking into past films and shows, what can I learn from them, how and why both 2D and 3D was used. This will give me insight on why both mediums have been previously used within the film and animation industry.

What films use 2D and 3D why?
Looking into specific films, research why that technique was used for that film, if it was a stylistic approach or if it was due to easier animation or technical reasons.

Using 3D to look 2D and 2D to look 3D:

·         Proposed references/examples to support each argument.

Isolated communities

Cults and Cult Behavior

Gloriavale Christian Community

What films use 2D and 3D why

The Iron Giant
Treasure Planet

·         Using 3D to look 2D and 2D to look 3D

·         Proposes the relevance of each reference/example to argument.
Man, I just looked up the argument in google scholar

The Purpose of Rina's Article, What is the Uncanny Valley, is to inform and teach her audience about her chosen topic within this article.

2)
The author was easy to find in this article, her name being under the title and date at the top of the

3)
From the article alone I can not tell what her qualifications are, however after a quick name search I was able to locate her LinkedIn page listing her qualifications and a brief paragraph about herself.
Rina being a Freelance Reporter, content writer and Editor as listed on her page, she also talks about her interest in technology in the paragraph about herself.

4)
There is noting that states that she is an expert on the topic. She tends to use Robots (on which she proves knowledge on from multiple articles) to describe the uncanny Valley.

21)
The Author is freelance therefore not afflicted with a company and or organisation

22)
The sources can be verified from the article that used them, most of them are other articles, books, or films featuring either robots, or some creepy figure that falls into the uncanny category.

23)----

24)
When the author uses a reference she integrates where the source is from within her text, with the title of the source hyperlinked to the next website.

25)-----

26)
No bibliography from what I can tell

27)
From what I can tell, I do believe that the Article above is creditable and can be used for research purposes, I do believe there is enough supporting evidence that the author is capable of writing something accurate with good sources.

ScreenArts: Film review - Tangled the Series

Tangled the Series

Tangled the series, is a continuation of Disney's Rapunzel story 'Tangled'.
The tv series takes place after the movie and after a short by the name of Tangled before ever after, which seems to act as a pilot for the series to bounce up off.

The series brings in new story lines and characters, such as Casandra, Varian and Adira as well as bringing back old characters and callbacks to the movie, extending and developing characters we already know.

The story in season one and from the short ' before ever after' introduces us to these mysterious black rock, which have some connection to the sun drop, to Rapunzel.

I absolutely love this series, it handles the characters well, and each episode managed to capture and entertain,
whether its directly connected to the main plot, or if it is a filler episode.

Sword wife

Proceeding with fangirling (spoilers for the show)

I have finished season one, which left me fangirling over the character Varian (THE BABY DID NOT DESERVE WHAT HAPPNED), I absolutely loved the idea of the stone an opposite to the sun drop, it adds so much lore to the world and just, its amazing,

THE BABY
and Varian, THE BABY BOI, he is an alchemist, and it SO ADORABLE, he is so passionate with his science and experiment, not always listening to his father and getting in trouble, and doing what he can to help people, which makes when he turns to be a villain, SO MUCH MORE PAIN. I loved his character arc in season one, and I CANT WAIT till he comes back, I have had some of the later season spoiled for me but it doesn't stop me from loving each episode.
Still loved him though, he made for an amazing season 1 villain, Rapunzel did get a little annoying with her optimism but It didn't get to the point of hate, they also have a character to balance hers out, in the form of Casandra.

Season two so far is amazing, the character, Adira, is so adorable she pops in every episode or two to guide the now traveling main cast of the series, (sadly no Varian yet :'( ) but so far so good, I'm only a few episode in, and just SWORD WIFE IS AMAZING, she is so cheeky yet stays her distance when the gang does not want her. The traveling arc so far is interesting as it lets us see what goes on outside of Rapunzel's Home kingdom Corona.I really hope Varian is brought back this season though I'm not gonna hold my breath on it.
Like I said earlier I have seen spoilers, sadly, and i do know he comes back,
just don't know when.

Honestly 90% of these reviews i do this year is gonna
be me fangirling over something I've been watching.

Animation Project: Mood Boards

Screen Arts: Short to Feature

Short Films to Feature Films

Brief History: Notes

In the beginning of film making films were no longer than 20 minutes, such as the 1902 Film, A Trip to the Moon.
Longer films at the time were considered more respectable.
Coming up to WW2, it began to be used for war propaganda and education.

around 60's Film became more popular
MTV became a source for film making.

Short Films now are easy to consume and are always scoffed up.
Youtube became a way, of uploading, sharing and getting quick views for film.

All those old films are quite interesting, and how they developed, Longer films use to be considered more high class back in the day however as time progressed, and people got more busy with their lives, the shorter films became more Liked, not to say that long films are not popular, however the shorter films are easier to stop and watch in a busy like.

Short Film to Movie: 9

9 was a short film ( a student short film) directed by  Shane Acker

The student film- Released in 2005 followed the story of a puppet's struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic style world, faced with a terrifying cat beast.
It won for in an animated film festival and was later adapted into a movie.
The character's origins was not adressed which made us focus soley on their strugle to survive

A lot of the story, a lot of the world seems to not come across in the movie as it is majorly subtext
it was not as well received as the short film, I believe this was due to lack of context for the audience,
and the fact that they tried to dig up some of the past, in a way that didn't quite work

It is the type of film where you have to search for the answers rather then have it handed to you,
It is quite different from the short film but hold the same ascetic the same stakes and wonder within this creation.

Fun Fact: The creator made a Facebook for the scientist and leading up to the release of the film, he would post noted of the scientist studies, up until the release.

Animation Project: Planner Options

Options for keeping log of my Project:

Shotgun
I'm  wanting to use shotgun as this is an Industry used software, meaning learning to use it will prove valuable, to keeping track and my own skills for my future.
It is far more complicated but I think that is all the more reason to learn it now.

However it might be overkill, seeing as it is intended for large group.

Outlook
This is defiantly one of the less complicated options that I have for my planning, I can create task for each thing I need, set a schedule, and keep track

Animation Project: More detail of a story

Treatment I guess? more of a story fart

The Professor is finishing up his preparation in his lab, stuffing things into a bag, the lab, is cluttered with notes red string and jars of strange plants and creatures, bubbling experiments.
he is crossing off checklists as he puts things into a piles and bags, suddenly a giant dragon head burst though the door,
Loon the Dragon Burst through the door excited, repeating lets go.

The sooner they find the key the sooner they can finally leave,

Pro digs into her about caution, he doesn't know what the guardian of the key, is, what they will face, he may be crazy but he knows how to take precaution.
He walks past the big bags and picks up a smaller one

now are you ready to go - Pro

The beast was long dead, its rib cage were pillars, and its tusks walls, the the crown of its head sat, encrusted into it, a oddly shaped medallion, the key
Loon flies up in a rush and pulls it out.

Animation Project: Guess who is a huge disappointment :D

Animation Project: Character Profiles

Characters:

The Professor: The Humanoid

Never ending energy, he is always pumped up for something as long it is in the lines of his research, he dislikes going of his course or slowing down, to him anything other then his view his idea's makes for a dull thought

Inspirations:

Dr Oblek (RWBY)

Grell (Black Butler)

Loon: The Dragon

Loon is a childish character: She is easily excited by others energy, however she is quick to burnout and once she is down its hard to get her started up.
She is very absent minded and forgetful however this doesn't seem to slow her down in living.
Loon loves trying anything and everything, pulling her friends along with her, as she likes the company, despite any protests that may arise.

This one is simple (a bit too simple)
But regardless, straight to the point on the home page with a show reel,
plenty of content and easy to navigate.

Animation Project: Quick Background

Project managment: Roles

So I did screw up in forgetting to do something for this lesson
we are pitching Logo Ideas and showing styles of animation
we could use for our project.

I myself want some form of gritty animation, at least for the live action aspects of this project
I love the paper like texture,
The story we are going with is the child and the teddy bear.
We are most likely going to be playing with Lighting.

We also Decided roles
I am going under:

Concept Artist
Storyboard Artist
Animatic Artist
Second AD

So basicly Second AD to my understanding is, that I update the scheduled as AD1 wishes, help look after the Talent, and make sure people are where they are meant to be.

Animation Project: After Class

Okay, defiantly screwed up in trying to get my idea across, they did not see it the way I did
(not good at translating ideas, I think concept art will or could help

Plopped the whole story down but the details were not clear enough for other people to understand,
Im honesty not to sure on how to get this through to others,

But I think I need to write out the story step by step, I think that might help

And concept art,

Not going for Steampunk really
I guess my idea is more organic, more of a hollow knight vibe, they could have Neo Victorea Fashon in this underworld, but its defifnantly not the bulk

Animation Project: Initial Story

Medium:
I am wanting to do a Animation combining both 3D and 2D animation

At the moment I believe I will be Using 3D animation for the two main characters, and a mixture of 2D and 3D for the background and extra characters.

Initial Story:
The Professor and his companion, journey to a Monsters den, as they have tracked down a key,
they need, Before they set of the professor is faffing around with collecting some liquid goop in a overlarge srynge
A key that will unlock an old cavern which they suspect may lead to the surface world.
They go to get they key Used the srynge to dislodge the Key (or erode what it is stuck in)
Possible  some escape from a collapsing cavern or monster as the meat of the story.
They get away with the Key

World:
The world takes place in an underground world, where the surface is but a myth, but not to all, the story focuses around the Professor who believes he is a human, and his dragon friend who desires to devour the moon.
Both of them are part of a conspiracy theorist group who believes that the surface world is not a myth and is real (as it is but this isn't known)
The professor has recently discovered new information, an old dangerous cavern long forgotten, he wishes to go forth into this cavern as to find the surface world, however this old cavern is shut tight a gate guarding their way, and a key missing to unlock their new journey.

(the story will focus on them getting the Key, anything else will be in dialog or hint and lore)

Motive:
Professor: He believes he is human and want to connect the two worlds
Loon: She wishes to see the surface and devour the Moon

Characters: (confirmed)
The Professor: The humanoid
Loon: The Dragon

Initial Sketches:

Inspirations:

Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is a game that follows a beetle like character:
Most of the story takes place underground where you face
enemies and travel through different caverns

Plague Doctors:
not a series or anything I just like them, they are creepy

Legend Of Zelda: Breath of Wild
Gannon's Blight
The pink/Purple sludge that appears in LOZ:BOTW

Slug Terra
Slug Terra takes place in an underground world, unknown to the surface as the surface is unknown to them. In this world they shoot slugs out of guns, honestly weird concept but it works (somehow)

FENNAH (Satellite City)
More specifically his character Lucy
She along with the characters of SATALITE CITY
are creepy in appearance and have somewhat
concerning personalities

Research: First class

HHNNNNNGGGGGG This is gonna be something O_O, Theory texts and essay the Bane of my existent (yes over dramatic I know.)

I am meant to research into aspects of my question, looking into each one and writing about it,
Okay so: My current question (or my question as its current state:

Can I create short film using both 3D and 2D animation, to create an unsettling

First Assignment: Proposal

Research a particular aspect of your question
For example Pie, researching a particular slice or flavor.

I am going to be using a mixture of 2D and 3D, I am also going to delve into the uncanny Valley to create a creepy world so I believe I should (possible ways to go)

- Researching techniques or different techniques used in the past that uses both 2D and 3D.

- Experiment with different combinations of what has been done in the past
exploring the ways that they can both be utilized.

- Research into games and films that intentionally use the uncanny v

- Try to mimic a style using both 2D and 3D

- Exploring character designs (looking into what makes something creepy)

This could either go in the way of short Gifs or still images (I would do a longer animation, I still might but that depends on how many combinations I end up deciding to explore, and what I find in that area)

The other films that were nominated for this position were:

Klaus
Missing Link
Toy Story 4

I personally Love Klaus the most due to its sweet story line and amazing animation.
I can't say much about Toy Story 4 as I have not seen the film myself, for me I felt as if the Third film finished things off perfectly, I don't have anything against more movies though.
